Chu Lai Port  was officially inaugurated and put into operation in May 2012 on a planned area of ​​173ha. The port is invested to build under the modern port model with the structure of shore berths, with advanced larsen piles technology popular in countries around the world such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore … The flow into port is calculated from Buoy zero is 11km long. The wharf is 500m long, the depth before dock -9.5m, the ability to simultaneously receive 3 vessels of up to 20,000 DWT. Current port capacity of the port is 3 million tons including 1.5 million tons of synthetic bulk cargo and 100,000 TEUs of containers annually. In the coming time, Chu Lai port plans to expand downstream, build another 450m long jetty, and propose Quang Nam province to dredge deep channels to -11.5m to ensure the reception of ships 50,000 tons after 2020.
Besides domestic shipping routes, the port is also the landing site for many major shipping lines in the world such as:
+ SITC Shipping: goods will be transported from Incheon Port (South Korea), through Qingdao ports -> Shanghai -> Hong Kong -> Hai Phong and to Chu Lai port.
+ APL shipping line: cargo is transported from Hiroshima port (Japan), through Kobe ports -> Shekou and Chu Lai port.
+ Cosco shipping line: goods go directly from Qinzhou port (China) and arrive directly at Chu Lai port.
Currently, Chu Lai port is the direct export port of Quang Nam. The opening of these maritime routes not only creates favorable conditions for investors in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone and Central – Central Highlands region to import and export goods through the port, opening up opportunities for trade in goods to The big seaport in the world but also contributes to promoting logistics activities, perfecting the supply chain of full-service services provided by Chu Lai Logistics.
Chu Lai import – export goods currently have container, general and liquid cargo, in which the main products are automobile components, construction equipment, construction materials, cement, wood chips, pellets. wood, asphalt and gas compressors, etc. Currently, the amount of imported goods is mainly imported from Korea, Japan, China, … Domestic goods are mainly exported goods of businesses in the Chu Lai KTM, Tam Thang Industrial Park (Quang Nam), VSIP Industrial Park (Quang Ngai) and fruits and agricultural products of the Central region and Central Highlands.
